Rocksport is looking for motivated and creative setters to join our team. Our route setting crew plays a huge role in shaping the climbing experience for our members and guests. We are looking for individuals who care about movement, safety, and community while maintaining the high quality standards Rocksport is known for. Just as important, we value a strong work ethic and high integrity, qualities that ensure our setting team represents Rocksport’s professionalism and commitment both on and off the wall.
Duties & Responsibilities
Follow the route setting schedule and set to Rocksport’s quality and safety standards
Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Head Setter and setting team
Keep an updated personal route log and ensure accurate route tags/tape are in place
Perform safety checks on routes, identifying potential fall hazards, rope drag, or hardware issues
Properly manage ropes, hardware, and all setting equipment
Maintain setting gear and keep the setting room clean and organized
Assist with wall maintenance (t-nuts, spinners, volumes, etc.)
Support the Head Setter during competitions, clinics, and special events
Forerun all routes and actively listen to community feedback
Respond politely and professionally to community feedback
Collaborate with the Head Setter and coaching staff for youth team-specific setting needs
Contribute ideas to help continually improve Rocksport’s setting program
Experience and Qualifications
USAC Level 1 Route Setting certification preferred
Prior youth competition setting experience a plus
1–2 years of setting experience preferred
Ability to forerun up to V5 and 5.12 for quality and movement assessment preferred
Safety focused work at height while being comfortable with ropes, ladders, and ascenders for extended periods
Thorough understanding of solo belay techniques and rope safety
Physically capable of lifting and carrying 50+ lbs and performing stripping/setting work
Able to seek, accept, and provide constructive feedback professionally
Expectations
15-30 hours per week
Typical schedule: 10 am – 3 pm, Monday–Friday
Set 1 to 2 routes per shift, or 4 to 6 boulders per shift, depending on hold stripping needs and if the route is in the lead cave.
Occasional Sunday night availability for resets, special events, or competitions
Dependable, punctual, and professional at all times
